FREE!! Kuskokwim River GIS Training
Does your community care about the health of the Kuskokwim River? If so, would you like to participate in a free GIS project to create an interactive map and track the health of the Kuskokwim River? Geographic information system (GIS) is a system for capturing, storing, analyzing, and managing data and associated attributes for a specific area i.e., Kuskokwim River Valley. The GIS project will cover the entire River using water quality data.
The resulting collection of information will be used to track the changes that occur naturally in river habitats, as well as, tracking pollution and potentially determining its origination so that it can be corrected in a short time frame and limit the impact to the environment on which humans and wildlife depend.
Georgetown Tribal Council is hosting a free GIS training in Anchorage, Alaska for communities along the Kuskokwim River.
1) Location: Anchorage, Alaska (more info later)
2) Time: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., two days
3) When: November 9-10, 2009, tentative
More information will be made available as the training arraignments are finalized.
