VISTA position available at the City of McGrath
What is a VISTA member?
** VISTA stands for Volunteers In Service To America and is a national service program funded by the federal government.
** Each VISTA member serves full-time for one year and receives a monthly living allowance of $1088.
** A community can have more than one consecutive VISTA member.
** At the end of a complete year of service, VISTA members either receive an Education Award of $4,725 or a Stipend of $1,200.
** VCMP = Village Council Management Program, a program sponsored by the Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc. (Rural CAP), in collaboration with a Tribal or City Council.
** Councils participate in the program for three years, beginning in January 2008.
** Councils recruit a VCMP VISTA member from within their own communities and provide a Site Supervisor, office space and access to a computer. RurAL CAP provides ongoing training and support to the VCMP VISTA member and their community.
** VCMP VISTA members work to assist and provide training in the areas of
--- community needs assessment;
--- development of community plans;
--- implementation or further development of existing plans; and
--- assisting in finding resources or funding for community projects.360
