IMPORTANT - info on UKC Premier

COBRA does plan to hold it's specialty on the thursday of Premier. That will make it on July 8 this year.

Having communicated with folks who have been to this facility for the Autumn Oaks coon hunt - This looks to be a positive move to a better facility.

Dear UKC Specialty Breed Clubs.

I am writing in regards to planning for the 2010 PREMIER Dog Show. First, I would like to thank you for your original response to our invitation to our annual event in June. However, we have a development which I would like to make you aware. Please note that this notice is just announced today and that is why I am sending you an e-mail alert to this matter.

It was with much thought and consideration for all involved, that the decision has been made to move our event out of Kalamazoo, Michigan which has also caused the date to change. One of the main points for us was the fact that our new venue is more centrally located for our exhibitors. In addition, it offers us more opportunity for growth than we currently have in Kalamazoo.

The event will be moving to the Wayne County Fairgrounds & Expo Center in Richmond, Indiana and the new dates for the 2010 PREMIER and the 2009 Top Ten Invitational will be July 8 through 11, 2010.

Richmond, Indiana is just west of the Ohio/Indiana border on the I-70 Interstate and is approximately 40 miles west of Dayton, Ohio and 100 miles east of Indianapolis. Additionally, the grounds include twice the usable outdoor space and more spacious indoor air-conditioned space than the former Kalamazoo site. Also, campers will enjoy, 1,200 RV spots, the majority of which have 30 amp electrical service!

FYI-Richmond, Indiana information

I currently live about 25-30 miles from the Wayne County Fairgrounds, so I have an idea of what's in the area.

There is a Motel 6 and a Knights Inn in Richmond that are really easy to get to.

There are two pet supply stores, one of which sells puppies so I don't shop there (Jack's Aquarium and Pets). There is a Tractor Supply as well.

There is a Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and Meijer.

There is the Model T museum.

There is a really cool candle outlet store right next to the Model T museum.

There are parks in Richmond to take walks--Hayes Arboretum and The Rose Garden (Richmond is FAMOUS for roses).

There is a cineplex.

25-30 miles south is Whitewater Memorial State Park and Brookville Reservoir.

There is a Tim Hortons.

There is an Army Surplus store and a cool used book store.

Being so close to Dayton gives you some stuff to see as it's home to a LOT of cool military stuff--including the Air Force History Museum and Wright Brothers historic sites.

About an hour and a half is Cincinnati. Miami University (Oxford, OH) is less than 45 minutes.

There is a Tom Raper RV site in Richmond, for those who might like to travel with their car, but camp onsite with an RV.

If anyone needs information on the area and what there is to do or see, let me know and I will do recon for you.

I think so. If not, there are bars in the area that have microbrew beer available. I think there's a good pub in the Depot District in Richmond (I have to double check what they have), plus there is a beer/coffee/wine place in Oxford, OH that has Great Lakes and other microbrew beer. Ther's also a German place in Oxford called Steinkeller. I have it on good authority that it is very much like what is in Germany.

There is a nice knitting shop in Uptown in the off chance you need a wool fix.

Did you say Tim Hortons????? Lord above, we're saved! That is the best move they could have made to a new venue! At that time of year I might even be able to go!
