They seem ok when outside together. They have 1.5 acres to run when we're home and during the day they have a big room in the basement (very comfy with furniture and all) with access to a large dog run outside. Today is the first day we put Dex in his crate because tensions were obviously very high this morning and we didn't trust that they wouldn't battle. From what we can tell they seem to only fight when we're around. I run Dex (slow trot for him) up to 4 miles a few times a week but he has more energy than that. I tried biking with him but he's really afraid of new things and he WILL NOT budge when we hook him up. He actually even hides when he sees me grab the leash for a run - once we're out he seems to really enjoy it but he doesn't like to leave his space. Clearly we didn't socialize him properly as a puppy. I think we can get used to taking turns with being out. It's during the long days when we're away that I'm not sure what we'll do. Our only option is to crate one of them.
Thanks so much for all the feedback and advice. It really is helping me think through how we can make this work because I'm so afraid he'd end up being put down by someone else and I just couldn't take that.
