It's Friday and it's News & Notes Day...
* * You will have three chances to hear radio veteran Lise Dominique on the radio over the next few days. This weekend, she will be making a return trip to visit Geoff Pinkus on his "Livin' Large" show. The program, which will also feature a live seance, will be on WIND-AM 560 on Sunday from 5:00pm-7:00pm. Then, on Monday & Tuesday morning, she will be the fill-in news anchor on WILV-FM 100.3.
* * For those who missed Connie Szerszen do her first radio interview about her new autobiography & long career in Chicago radio, you can hear much of it now. Her visit to WGN's Steve & Johnnie is now on a pair of podcasts, one of which features her meeting Elvis Presley and one where she talks about her "date" with Neil Diamond (at least as much as she legally could on the air). Both of those podcasts (and more) are up on the Steve & Johnnie: Life After Dark webpage on WGN's site at this link HERE.
* * Speaking of podcasts, B96's host of their weekend late night mix shows, Alex Peace, has his own podcast site now. Alex Peace's podcasts can be found at this link HERE. ![]()
* * Speaking of B96 & DJs... If B96's Julian sounds a little tired on his morning show next Thursday, here's why: Julian will be the host of "Wicked Wednesdays" at Fitz's Lanes in Elmhurst (119 N. York Rd). The party starts at 8:00pm and goes on until 1:00am. To go along with the bowling & billiards at Fitz's, there will be four DJ's, drink specials, CD giveaways, and more, all emceed by Julian. No cover charge, either.
* * WVON-AM's weekly business program, "The Urban Business Roundtable," which is hosted by CNN analyst Roland S. Martin, has added a new member to the show. Joining the roundtable is Dr. Farrah Gray, the local businessman and best-selling author. Dr, Gray was named as one of the most influential Black men in America by the National Urban League's Urban Influence magazine and as an entrepreneurial icon by Ebony magazine. He now joins a team that also includes, Crain's Chicago Business senior reporter Monee' Fields-White and economist Professor Rashid Carter. WVON's "The Urban Business Roundtable" airs Wednesdays at 8:30am, Thursdays at 6:30pm and Saturdays at 9:30am on AM 1690.
* * Former Loop DJ, Mike Noonan, who along with his wife Jill are running www.VisitSantaOnline.com, have a dozen and a half radio stations that have incorporated the Holiday website into their stations' websites. Look for WLIT's website to add it in a few more days, once the flip to the Holiday Lite happens. If any other stations are looking to add this chance of easy holiday revenue to their site, visit www.FREENTR.com.
* * Starting today and running through Sunday night, is the gigantic SOFA Chicago 2009 exhibition at Navy Pier. (SOFA stands for Sculpture Objects and Functional Art, and has nothing to do with couches.) One of the exhibitors is Cleveland's Thomas Riley Galleries. Among their showcases will be the work of Cherry Goldblatt, who will be showing her very unique beaded teapot artwork. Cherry's son is Fox32's news anchor Jeff Goldblatt. (You knew there had to be a local media connection, didn't you?!) As a personal side note... as somebody who has attended these SOFA shows in the past, I will warn you now to NOT put down your home address or email address on any forms while there. SOFA will constantly send you junk mail and junk emails about their shows all over the country. Asking to be unsubscribed means nothing to them. Moving means nothing -- they will find your new address. It's best to just go & enjoy the unusual works, but stay anonymous. End of personal note. Here is one of Cherry's beaded teapots:
