Some Hump Day News & Notes:
* * George Ofman is sure keeping busy these days. In addition to blogging for the Sports section of the Beachwood Reporter website, George has just started blogging for the Tribune's ChicagoNow site, as well. You can find all of his ChicagoNow blogs, which are called "That's All She Wrote by George Ofman," at this link HERE.
* * Starting Tuesday, George Ofman will be doing something else with the Tribune Company, too. He will be doing a few days of fill-in sports reporting for WGN-AM. It's nice to get some good news when talking about WGN, especially with all of the bad news that seems to be coming from there lately.
* * More good news concerning WGN... Congratulations go out to WGN-AM's Assistant Program Director, Dan Zampillo! Dan was married over the weekend and is now enjoying his honeymoon with his lovely bride, Christen. Best wishes to the new couple! (Have a wonderful honeymoon, but hurry back, Dan. It appears Kevin Metheny may need some help...)
* * Local TV & rock legend, Jerry Bryant is happy to announce that his local music showcase TV show, JBTV will now be on 5 nights a week. JBTV can now be seen at Midnight on Cable Channel 34 and WJYS 62.2. (It's not the major local channel this classic show SHOULD be on, but the added exposure is certainly welcome.)
* * CBS2's Bill Kurtis paid a visit down to the set of the TV show CSI: Miami to shoot some promos for WBBM-TV, along side cast member David Caruso. As much of a professional as Bill Kurtis is, the shoot took many takes. Click on this link HERE to see the funny bloopers & outtakes.
* * There are two major ceremonies happening in Chicago on the same night night this weekend. Saturday will have the awards ceremony for the Chicago/Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, otherwise known as the Local Emmys. That will take place at the Park West (322 W. Armitage) at 7:30pm. Drinks, food & networking begins at 5:30pm. Tickets are still available at this link HERE.
Also happening Saturday night is the 2009 National Radio Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This big black-tie event will take place at the Renaissance Chicago Hotel (1 W. Wacker Dr.) in its Grand Ballroom. The long, fun night starts at 6:00pm with a cocktail reception. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at this link HERE.
* * As of this week, former Q101 host, Ryan Manno now has a new personal website up, where fans can check in with him and his goings on. You can see the site at this link HERE. Also, Ryan Manno is reunited on air with his brother Kevin this afternoon from 1:00pm-4:00pm (yes, right now) on Vocalo 89.5.
* * The man behind the beats is branching out. Dance Factory's Dylan Rudisill is now also doing imaging work for radio stations nationwide. As of this month, he will be the voice of New Orleans' B97/WEZB.
* * Move over, Mancow. Is TV's George Lopez about to become a Chicago-based shock jock?? Yes he is. Luckily for our ears here, it is all for a made-for-TV movie, though. The movie is called "Naughty or Nice" and it does indeed star George Lopez as a nasty, shocking Chicago sports radio personality. According to an advance description of the film I was given, Lopez's overly-negative radio character has his attitude changed for the better after he meets with a 15 year old fan who is battling for his life from an illness. To help the young fan, he promises to be nice for a day and is amazed at the positive effect it has on those around him, including the boy's health. If it sounds like it is a wee bit similar to Dicken's "Christmas Carol," there's a good reason for it. The "Naughty or Nice" movie will be part of ABC Family's annual "25 Days of Christmas" TV event. The holiday movie will premiere on Monday, November 30th at 7:00pm, with a rerun on Sunday, December 6th at 9:30pm. ![]()
