Thanks for your kind wishes! We had over 80 patients and over 70 volunteers, exhibitors and healthcare providers attending our third annual COPD Education Day on November 7! The audience was very interested in all the presentations and were literally at the edge of their chairs listening to the H1N1 talk by our infectious disease specialist. They were also extremely interested in hearing about my travel with O2, using my POC. One of the most popular presentations at ACCP was the H1N1 talk given by an infectious disease specialist at UC Davis. The two new meds are finishing clinical trials and seeking FDA & other nation approvals so they can go to market. The PD4 inhibitor had a pretty modest temporary increase in FEV1 while the other medication appeared to have a slightly higher increase in FEV1. It's not clear how much may be affected by how subjects were selected for the trials and how well any of the results will translate to folks who actually get prescribed these meds once they are available. My talk about Case-Finding for COPD and Poorly Controlled Asthma was very well attended. It was also fascinating to hear about telemedicine that the military is working on, using cell phones for health messages. I also shared about how we can work to help Hawaii be a great venue for the 2011 ACCP conference, with a few concrete suggestions. We had a planning meeting in San Diego. Starion
