I will try this one next time my breathing rate goes up and my sats go down from getting into it with the ol' lady or my 'terrible two year old' Grandson... Relaxation is the absence of tension in muscle groups and a minimum or absence of "inner chatter" - the thoughts and worries that constantly go on in our minds. A person's relaxation level is often dependent on his or her breathing pattern. Therefore, people with chronic lung conditions may feel less relaxed due to any related breathing difficulties. Instant Relaxation Drill •Position yourself comfortably either sitting, standing, or lying down. •Keep your back straight. •Draw in a deep breath and count to five slowly. Exhale slowly and let all your muscles relax. Repeat this step two or three times until you are completely relaxed. •Imagine a pleasant thought, such as "I am learning how to relax," or a pleasant scene, such as a calm lake. If you use a natural scene, imagine all the sights, sounds, and smells of that scene as vividly as you can.
