Hi Ann, I also think of you oftem. If memory serves me well, I think you and I are at about the same stage, with the same symptoms, in our copd fight.

Yes Claire we go way back lol. I have completed testing for LVRS. My numbers are very low but so far I am going ahead....have to find a rehab place. Wish you had been able to do the same. I am glad to hear that you are all holding your own.

Yes Joe, I did. I thank you for the background information you gave me on the clinic. All of my experiences at this hospital, so far, are way about the usual care and treatment at any facility I have been to, it is worth the trip. Got lost a couple of times going and coming from there. The last time missed a turn and ended up in Clewiston/Pahokee and the sugar fields. lol Try it, I think you will love it....the hospital not the missed turns and resulting outings!

Ann, see if your insurance will pay for you to go to rehab at Duke. I think it would most definitely be worth it for you to live in NC for the 4 1/2 weeks to go through their rehab program prior to your LVRS.

Were you serious about me going to Duke for rehab?? I said I/the doctor needed to find a place that does pulmonary rehab, I did not say I had won the lottery to afford a 4 1/2 week vacation.

But I did give Duke their shot at "fixing" me, they turned me down, they said I did not qualify. I am glad your experience with Duke was so wonderful, for me it was one of the most frustrating (read horrible) experiences I have had in my "journey" to LVRS.

Penny, I believe Ann may be approved for LVRS but not for Video assisted surgery which is a specialty with different criteria. I didn't get approval either for Vats although my surgeon preferred that approach. For some of us, VATs could prove more risky as it might be difficult to find adequate edges for sealing properly. It's usually restricted (at least in my case) to those who had less extensive diseased tissue. Surgeons have their own reasons. Some won't even take a patient until they are further along, and then prefer open chest. Who are we to know what's best for our lungs. We listen and learn.

You said Duke turned you down? Oh, Ann, I'm so sorry. I know you must be quite disappointed. However, at least you know they don't do the surgery if they don't think you'd survive it AND benefit from it.

Have you considered a TX then? Perhaps the rehab program you're looking for will help your numbers enough that you might end up with numbers good enough to qualify.

You don't have to have the LVRS done here but you'll be hard pressed to find a rehab program to compare with the one they have.

It's a shame you had such a horrible experience here. I guess it's all in the attitude we bring into a situation that makes the difference whether an experience is good or bad. Horrible. Wow. It really must have been bad for you! Still, I stand by my comment that it has one of the best rehab programs you'll find anywhere.

hey, sugar fields can be fun. I haven't head the Pahokee since I left Florida. We used to drive back to college in the early AM, still dark and raid the sugar fields or cane to take back to school till we almost got shot. Chewing on sugar cane was goooood.

Ann,,glad that so far it looks OK. Pohohokee!!!! I recall when an IBM dispatcher, when I used to work second shift, tried to talk me into taking a service call in Pohokee, and it was one AM in the morning and I was already into OT.
Didn't go, but have been thru the area. It's an interesting drive around the lake.

Hi Luke, How are you? My computer has been down a lot lately with a downloader or a hijacker or something like that.
It's been a rough few months around here, I had some serious reactions to 3 antiplatelet drugs & the last one to Ticlid almost did me in.So I now take only 324mg of aspirin for stroke prevention (fingers crossed here). Guess I've become a bit reclusive & exhausted from dealing with all the health problems in my immediate family.
I hope you are feeling well, Luke.

Hi John. It's the blind leading the blind around here.I thank God for our daughter. Despiteher limitations & very painful RA, she does the cooking & takes care of the house. I have just hired a cleaning sdervice to come in twice a month to take some of that burden off her shoulders.
But there are others who have it much worse than I do and knowing that keeps me grounded. Be well, John.

We were lucky this winter, it was not to bad here weather wise, but still wish my parents were from another state, for many reasons, weather being one of them.
I seem to be doing much better than I should be, according to my numbers.
Please keep in touch. Venting does help, and you do have your hands full. We are here, and want to help.
