Thanks to all for your input. I went ahead and took a couple of tylenol 3s over a 24 hour period but whether because of that or some other reason my breathing really took a nosedive--sats went into the 70s on little effort, which they almost never do, and I was sweating all the time, which is also listed as a side effect. I quit the drug and today I feel fine, sats back to normal and sweating gone. Otherwise I'd be thinking cardiac. So probably people have different reactions.

Pulmos give cough medicine with codeine to copd patients to calm a nagging cough. I am allergic to codeine so I depend on Darvocet for pain.

I haven't taken them, however, my uncle takes them daily, as his back was broken several years back, and he has copd/emphysema very severe. No other health issues.

John, I had a few left from a dental surgery for my daughter and I had some pretty bad back pain so I took one at night before bed and I didn't notice any breathing difficulties and my lung function is much lower than yours. Relieved my back pain and I slept well. Maybe give your doc a call and see if you could discuss your concerns with him.
