Why The Difference

I have been using Tiova from ADC for a couple of years now. Recently I had finished one bottle and since I had a supply of Spiriva from my Dr - I used one of them. I had an absolutely horrible day. Very SOB and simply miserable. Why would there be such a difference and has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I have found that the Tiova works much better for me than the Spiriva. With the Spiriva I never knew if I was getting a dose or not. With the Tivo there is never any question.

You know, I have noticed i am more SOB when I use Spiriva. I was horrible yesterday. Today I have not used it and I am honestly feeling better. I think I read somewhere it can cause more SOB and does not work on everyone. Maybe I am one of them. Anyone else notice this?

No, Linda, I don't do well on Spiriva. After using it I'll feel good for a couple of hours, but than I find myself very SOB with 22 hrs. to go until the next dose. I have tried it twice, for a month each time, so I think I gave it a fair test. Maybe it is because I stupidly swallowed a few caps instead of inhaling them (see thread below).

I swallowed a couple of them years ago ( as I think many of us have) and suffered no ill effects. I would imagine the acid in your stomach made short work of them even though it didn't do much for your lungs..

It just doesn't seem to work for some people, or it doesn't work as well. We did an informal poll here a couple of years ago and if my memory is correct as maan y as 25% of respondants reported no gain or were actually worse after using it--though most people reported some improvement, and some was dramatic. Run it by your doc on your next visit.

I personally don't have any experence with Tiova to compare.

I forgot my Spiriva a couple of times, and that`s when I really discovered that it helps me. One can never tell what`s going to work, it`s Trial and Error just like everything else in life.
John, are you the one who told me to use a peroxide and Water mix to rinse my mouth with. You see, I am back on Advair-just can`t do without it, and my Albuterol Rescuer. but; I have Thrush constantly. I`m on Nystatin again. I swish and swallow.
I think, it`s all through my Esphagus ,Stomache, Intestines etc.
I checked on-line about Thrush amd Candida. Am trying to smarten myself up on meds and conditions.
My friend Joan is still in hospital. I speak with her every day. She is still weak, but getting better.
I`m hoping you stay well John.

Kay, I have had the best results getting rid of thrush with vinigar and water. Please let me know if the peroxide and water works better. I really have a time with thrush!!

Kay, Have you tried salt water rinses? I do it right after taking the Advair. When I was on antibiotics and pred in January my thrush came back. I didn't even bother with the nystatin. I swear the salt water rinses actually cure the thrush as well as keeping it at bay once you get rid of it. I put 1/2 teaspoon in one cup of water. Swish it around real good then spit it out. Then I follow with a plain water rinse (again, don't swallow) to get rid of the salty taste.
