We often have had discussions of dentures and COPD folks having thrush outbreaks. This article brings up the real issue, of bacteria and conditions in the mouth protecting with good bacteria and acid conditions for general health in your mouth. "Whenever I get a sore throat it becomes an infection is often said." We know that bacteria enter the body through the mouth so it helps to keep the mouth in good shape and actively fighting infections. Good bacteria and virus fight the bad bacteria and virus. Yes, yogurt can help with it's lactobacillae. It's a healthy bacteria which creates yogurt and helps improve natural balance. Scouring your mouth with tough astringent washes kills good bacteria along with other bacteria, and encourages overgrowth of yeasts. Yeasts in great numbers overgrow and become thrush. Painful and usually unnecessary if you replenish good bacteria. If you feel as if you need a rinse, plain water or plain salt and water can help remover residue of medications- sterilising the mouth encourages yeasts and thrush conditions. There are plain yogurts without the sweet flavorings, but always check to be sure they read "active cultures" on the container. The shelf life is long and if you carefully close the container, after dishing some out, it should keep awhile. I always keep one or two on hand for a spoonful at least.
