I had my tonsils out when I was 7 (1945). It was done on an outpatient basis, ether for anesthesia (gag!!!) and a bed in the hall for recovery. Good times. An even better time was my birth in 1938. I arrived with the cord around my neck. I had to have supplemental oxygen (how ironic is that!) so they rigged up an oxygen tent in a drawer (do-it-ourself incubator). Bloody miracle I have a brain and can see after that!
