What you say is true, however, in a situation that destroys the integrity of the container it is quite likely that sparks may be present which will be fuel for the resulting fire. A few years ago, a gentlemen with an oxygen container in his car was involved in a wreck. The integrity of the container was compromised and the wreck became a fiery inferno causing the man's death. An oxygen container just sitting there won't hurt you, but it can certainly exacerbate a situation when it is vented to the atmosphere in the presence of fire.
