It IS a jolt to be considering a lung transplant. I remember in 2000 when I was first diagnosed and the docs were all talking about that with me--I was only 42 and had very young children and we were all very confused and had a whirlwind of emotions. It's difficult to sort out but we started with a thorough evaluation before going further. That is really the key and can only be helpful.
There is no requirement that you go beyond that but being evaluated for a transplant takes some time. Is there a reason they aren't considering you for Lung Volume Reduction Surgery first? I don't recall you having that.
It would be a good idea to have an evaluation and then you can ponder more about being listed and speak with the counselor & others who have had transplants.
Here's another resource about lung transplants that I've always read/heard great things about.
Keep us posted!
