Got a call from my pulmo last Friday who spoke to both my husband and me. He has strongly recommended my getting on the lung transplant list. He said I am young (60) and otherwise in good health. He said these exacerbations will only get more difficult for me and with my history of respiratory failure, it should not be a question. He said I have a long process to go through. I have to send him the records from the hospital of my recent stent and a whole battery of tests to go through. He is the lead pulmo on the transplant team at a teaching hospital here in Baltimore. He feels that I would qualify, but need to be approved by a host of other professionals.
This really set the tone for a lot of talk this past weekend. I have had a roller coaster of emotions and at times, want to say "NO". But my quality of life is such that I am getting too dependent on others, which is something I never would consider before. This recent cold/exacerbation has really scared me to the point of taking medications that I balked at before. The mucous secretions were so bad, I thought I was going to drown. Fortunately, the Atrovent nasal spray and the prednisone help dry things up, but the sinus issues are like a yoyo.
I guess I am just plain scared and am looking to others who have gone through this process for advice. Thanks for any help.
Linda
