He meant for me to wear one for my protection. He said any barrier that you can put between you and the virus helps. He doesn't believe that is a sure-fire protection but anything I can do to reduce my exposure is a good thing. At my stage, I simply cannot afford to be sick if I can possibly avoid it. Avoiding people sneezing or coughing does not guarantee protection either. People can have the virus, and pass it on, for 24 hours before they exhibit symptoms - those are the ones that concern me the most.
If I am sick, I'm not going to be in contact with anyone unless it's emergency care technicians. I'm going to assume they will take care of themselves.
