You've gotten good advice from the previous posters but I just want to say that, if the sternum is more prominent than the ribcage, it doesn't sound like she's barrel-chested. It does, however, sound like she's pigeon chested as you said. I've never heard this related to copd, though. However, it may also be a contributing factor to her shortness of breath.
