My mother, too has CHF and although she isn't in the hospital right now, it's only a metter of time before the cough and swelling, then the gasping for air, and the hospital are inevitible. She also has signs of some kind of dementia, although I am not sure it's Alzheimers, even though I sometimes refer to it that way for sake of conversation. She knows everyone, but she won't eat, and she doesn't remember from one moment to the next what just happened, or what happened long ago, either. She is becoming very detached, and unresponsive, although she is still very sweet, and thanks everyone for everything, constantly. She loves toothpicks. It's awfuil and it's a burden for my dad, who is even older than she is, so I live with them and we muddle along. Just another day in paradise. Stay well, Susan
