Oh boy, do I need to vent about those new HFA inhalers! I tried ProAir before and it did not work for me. I ended up in the ER and refused to buy it again, went through a big stink with my insurance co, etc, etc. So, the insurance co I had at the time agreed to send me only Armstrong brand because I knew I could take that and it worked. With ProAir, it didn't work and I had to throw it away.
Fast forward to a couple of months ago when I started taking Symbicort, but needed a new rescue inhaler, just in case, because my other inhalers expired. So, I called my local cvs and asked if they had any Armstrong inhalers left and they said they did. I had my doc call in a script for it there, but when I went to pick it up, all they said they had for me was ProAir. I politely told her to keep it and told her about the ER trip and I would pick up a script from my doc's office and go elsewhere. Then, she blurts out with, "Well, CFC inhalers are going away and you people are just going to have to accept that fact and start using the new HFA ones." I was like, excuse me, and what do you mean by YOU PEOPLE?! If they don't work, they don't work. Period. I'm guessing there are going to be a lot more ER and hospitalizations once the old inhalers are all gone based on the experiences that I've been reading about. Sorry, to ramble on, but I was so ticked off by this pharmacist's unprofessionalism that I just had to get it off my chest. LOL
