I think we are on to something here, John. It's appalling that these Docs, Nurses, etc., go from sick folks, to other sick folks and aren't sanitising at least.
I have never offended anyone by suggesting they ommitted a step but warn them immediately if they head towards me without a wash or wipe. Docs offices and clinics and hospitals, and Pharmacies are full of patients with really serious infections, diarrheas, TB's, virus, aids, STD's, snotty noses.. and there is no way you are going to touch me if you've come from some other patient...it's not a minor issue and they have been taught that in any decent medical school.
Since no one makes them hesitate, they go right on speeding through...
It's so easy to just say, "I'm paranoid about getting infections, so can we be careful?". I have yet to have anyone argue with my smiling warning. They all KNOW that they should, it just takes time, and they feel you are absolutely right.
Does it work? My Hubby has been in hospitals for surgery or angio's at least 20 plus times with no infections. It starts right in the ER and follows up to a room...and no one gives you strange looks or argues, they know the warning is an alert and correct.
It's also a good idea to suggest to pharmacy folks that someone without a cold could work the counter today, no? I called the store manager and wasn't asked for a name. We spend good dollars in their facilities and don't deserve getting sick, or food which is contaminated.
You don't need to confront anyone, they all know your comment is appropriate. If we don't speak up, who will? Your call may save the next person's life. Truly. I'm tired of hearing about bottom lines...
