Just returned from a great trip to Flaming Gorge. Buckboard Marina was great, Leon and Michael were friendly and helpful. We even got some help from the local game warden who helped us get on fish.
Stayed at the Sweet Dreams inn...nothing fancy but clean and comfortable rooms right on Hwy 503 on the way to BuckBoard.
Here's the details is you are going to FG...best lures was RMT Hyper Plaid dodger 5.5 with a RK bubble gum pink hootchie. Scent was Pro Cure Krill and Carp Spit super gel. Best color by far was PINK. Tipped our lures with Berkeley Gulp maggots - white or pink. (no corn allowed!)
We also used ball trolls made from putting 2 or 3 dodgers together and stringing 15 feet behind the boat and place our set-ups feet above and five feet behind the ball trolls.
The most important advice ...we ususlly troll at 1.2 mph but at FG 1.6 - 1.8 was the best. If your lure doesn't have alot of action you won't get bit. Biggest fish was 23 inches - 4.5 lbs most were 18-20 inches. We used standard kokanee rods strung with 10 lb P-line. We lost a few fish mostly because of my poor knots!
Check your equipment/line frequently and check your line for rough spots - these fish jump like marlins. We caught 75 fish and successfully released all but 2. If you can go...go. My buddy and I are already planning for next year.
Don Pedro will never be the same! Thanks to all of the advice to my previous posts.
Best set up RMT Dodger RK pink hootchie
"Cookie Cutter 18 inch FG Kokanee"
Big Fish 23 inches 4.5 lbs
Fight is on..for perspective RMT Dodger is 5.5 inches
Released to fight again
