When I read Kendra's post a few days back, it stuck with me- so I thought perhaps I would reply.. I'm am not aware of ANY outdoor organization that does not value the interest and participation of it's children. After all, they are the next generation of organization members. I'm sorry to hear that you and your children felt shunned at a CIFFI derby- let me assure you that children are very welcome and desired at CIFFI derbies. In regard to being a prize runner, Chuck tries to pick fairly and not select the same children everytime. He does however only select children that are old enough to be able to move through the crowd carrying prizes. He also only selects a certain number of children, as he has "thank you" gifts for them, and will not select more children than he has gifts- that way they are rewarded and have something to take home with them. I encourage you to continue to attend both organizations derbies- they are designed to be fun! And also continue to encourage your children to volunteer to be prize runners. We want to foster our children's love of the outdoors, they are our future outdoor sportmen!
And in regard to the Annual CIFFI Fundraising Dinner- that event is not designed for children - although they are always welcome- it is the opportunity to socialize, bid on and/or win some wonderful prizes, feast on an incredible meal, and enjoy a nite out. But it is first and foremost a fundraiser. The revenue generated through this dinner is what allows CIFFI to continue all of its hard work and programs to promote the fisheries in CA. The women roaming selling raffle tickets, allow guests to sit at their tables and relax and socialize and still purchase raffle tickets- no trying to locate a ticket booth or standing in line... and lets face it, the men are more inclined to purchase additional tickets if it is from a pretty woman.
And to address the last issue you mentioned- the women with whom everyone wanted pictures.. you are referring to our special guests we had at one dinner- 2 of the Sacramento Kings Centercourt Dancers. These are 2 of the same women that would be performing a halftime show for you if you were to attend a Sacramento Kings game. (hey, Dallas has their cheerleaders- and I have never heard anyone say "Wow those Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders sure have nice personalities"). So Kendra please know that you and your children are very welcome at CIFFI derbies, and hope you will continue to attend!
