D. Brown -
our fisheries are under attack and ciffi and other 501c3's (a tax exempt IRS status) do what we can to enhance the fisheries, but due to limitations of the laws governing 501c3's we can only do so much in the political arena - if we break the rules we no longer get tax exempt status (which means less money for fish as the tax man takes his chunk).
so a good way to be heard is to support an organization that can get the politicians attention. another 501c3- water for fish (water4fish.org) still has 501c3 limits and has recently formed a partnership with CIFFI. water4fish is gathering signatures and is doing everything a 501c3 can do to get the politicos knowing we are here.
BUT there is even more we can do....
COHA - california outdoor heritage association - is a full fledged PAC (political action committee), which can do the heavy leaning on the folks in sacramento so they understand who we are and what we want. but to do that a pac need money. coha covers everything from hunting, camping (think off limits foests due to closure) to fishing and i think we can find they can do the job, if we send them armed with money.
the first coha fund raising dinner is coming up on april 10 (its catered by silver sage catering and is worth the money just for the food)and if you really want to support your sports, you need to go and support this pac. the folks who want to take your fishing away all have PACS driving thier issue - its time we do the same. here is the URL: http://www.outdoorheritage.org/
i recommend all sportsmen to join and give regularly to COHA - its really the best way we can engage the process that exists in sacramento right now.
