hey john,
we do have joint projects w/ kokanee power. both groups fund 50% of the DFG annual cost to gather, raise and plant kokanee in california's lakes.
as for kokanee, we are finding that more plants in a lake is not necessarily better.
approx 1.2 million eggs are gathered each year (usually less is planted due to hatchery mortality) and planted based upon DFG biologists recommendations. there are only so many lakes that we can plant kokanee. we have stopped planting pardee, so the kokes can grow to bigger size (there is only so much food in a lake - more fish means smaller fish).
every year both groups talk to the dfg and suggest additional lakes to be planted, the dfg reviews our requests and if it meets the criteria - they will plant. witness the recent plants at folsom lake and rollins lake - these were a recent add. both have yet to prove thier worth though, but we are still trying.
we also partner with kokanee power at the collins lake pen program.
so as you can see, there is 'partnership' occurring - not everything is going to be shared, but changes have happened.
