Not only weed out illegal guides operating on the lakes, but the illegal charters operating on the rivers and deltas.
From the numbers given to me, close to 67% of all of the salmon, striper, and sturgeon charters are illegal. Funny thing is that I will get boarded by DFG or the Coast Guard because they know our vessel, but they will go right by a vessel that is operating an illegal charter.
I want and appreciate them being out there!! I just wish they would pay more attention to those kind of activities as well!!
Very simple for the public to determine if a captain is legal or not....a legally licensed captain is required to display his/her captains license. A legally licensed captain is also required to have both cf and dfg numbers displayed on the side of the boat....two pretty simple things to look for!!
Waters this covers??? ALL WATERS NAVIGABLE TO THE OCEAN, and in some cases inland lakes as well....like Tahoe as an example. Please note there are a few exceptions that applies to rivers, but they are so few I wont address them.
Folks...this is nothing new!!
There is nothing more that I like is when an angler calls to book a trip and they ask for my documentation. I wish more anglers would do this, because as both Monte and Danny have explained, it takes TIME and MONEY to get these appropriate licenses, bonds, and insurance.
I also would like to see all the publications require that if someone is advertising, submitting pictures or information to them that they have to supply the appropriate documentation for the body of water.
Again, this is nothing new, just glad to see some form of enforcement is going to happen for the illegal operations, instead of mainly having enforcement for the legal operations.
