What another fantastic egg collection day! Much thanks to all those who chained up to get over the summit and all of you who withstood the cold, rain and snow to get 'er done. I thought you may be interested in an update from San Joaquin. I got a call from the hatchery around 11 last night with the "Hatchery-IN" counts from yesterday's take. The conditions at hatchery allow for a more accurate count but the streamside estimates were once again "right-on". The actual in-count was 808,680. The eggs arrived in excellent shape and they expect a 95% "good egg" or survival rate through the initial stages. This yields an actual of 767,782. This compares to a 823,680 total last week. At the same 95% good expectation, the actual was 782,496. So the YTD "in-the-hatching-jars" total stands at 1,550,278. This is great news. No final determination has been made about a third collection. It there is one, it could happen as early as the middle of next week and it could take place at Taylor Creek as there are fish ready to go at that location now. Please don't forget about the much needed hatchery help. One and a half million eggs means there's a LOT of work to do over the next month or two.
