Wow I thought that both Roberta and I were gentle and loving. True love while it does not keep a record of wrongs is willing to speak the truth in love. The 66 books of the Bible have been accepted by the historic church since its inception. The Gospel of Thomas was not accepted in the cannon by the early believers. They were there! If anyone other than me has read the gospel of thomas they would recogonize that it is the philosophy of man and not the Word of God. This is not legalism but truth being spoken in love.
A number of the New Testament Books were written in rebuttal to gnostic or otherwise false letters or teachings spreading around the church. Are we not to judge righteous judgement?
If we are all united around Jesus does that just mean that if one denomination calls homosexuality right that we are to agree and not speak out or cause division or stand in opposition to it?
Pastor Mike I do agree that there are debatable issues of which we should not argue such as baptism, communion, church government, etc. But what are we to say when someone attacks the cannon of Scripture? The only basis for which we stand or fall as Christians? What are we to say if someone is promoting a book that is not scripture and calling it the Words of Christ?
This is not legalism simply myself as a worm speaking to other worms saying what it is that I have already been through in my Christian walk and wasted much time with. The reason I was so passionate about the Supremacy Movement was that I used to be apart of it and the reason that I am against the Gospel of Thomas or any lukewarm gospel is that I have been there also and I desire to be in fellowship with God through Jesus Christ!
In Christian Love,
Dave
Romans 14 deals with peoples traditions and give us leway but the Apostle Paul warns us not to accept any other gospel (Gal. 1).
