My earliest known ancestor in my Burks line was Charles Burks, who founded Burks Spring Distillery in Loretto, KY. His distillery, founded in 1803, is the location of present-day Maker's Mark. An early record shows that a group of creditors followed him to Washington Co, KY to make a claim against him for an old debt in Prince Edward Co, VA (now Amelia Co.), and there are a bunch of Burks there. I'm trying to find his parents and ultimately, the immigrant ancestor in this line.
