From Coach Mike Woodard:
Reclassification process getting under way
Georgia high schools should find out next week the classification to which they will be assigned for the next four years, beginning with the 2010-11 school year.
The Georgia High School Association hopes to get official enrollment numbers from the Department of Education on Monday.
If so, the tentative schedule for reclassification would be:
Monday: Receive enrollment figures from Georgia DOE.
Tuesday: Publish on the GHSA Web site the list of schools in each classification.
Nov. 24: Deadline for schools to declare intent to "play up" in a higher classification.
Dec. 1, 2 or 3: The GHSA reclassification committee meets on one of those dates to place schools in regions.
Dec. 15, 16 or 17: Appeals for lateral transfers.
Jan. 11 or 12: The GHSA executive committee meets to ratify reclassification.
The new reclassification will govern the next four academic years through 2013-14. After two years, schools that have experienced a 20 percent increase or decrease in enrollment are eligible to be reclassified for the 2012-13 and 2013-14 years.
