Since I've been a bit lax in working on my own chat recently (which won't be publicly available), I thought I'd spend some time on significantly altering the voodoo chat engine to incorporate a number of extra features. Hopefully it'd be possible for those with the knowledge on how to set up the voodoo chat (available from vochat.com) to run a more fully-featured version with the alterations I've made. So far it would only run using the shared-memory version of the engine but I hope to make the alterations for it to run using files fairly swiftly. SQL might take a bit longer. Admittedly there are still a couple of small problems that need looking at (like the long time before someone gets logged out of the chat) but all the changes I've made I'm making publicly available for people to use. If anyone has any queries, feel free to contact me in some way (AIM as feathowl, also e-mail at gmail.com with the same name) I'll also continue to work on adding a couple of extra features, which not being overly familiar with Javascript, I'm hoping someone else might be able to supply. The number of chats around makes no difference, and it makes no sense to summarily dismiss additional ones as 'no good'. It ultimately depends on who their target audience is and how they are run as to whether they'd attract usage. My intent is to allow those who are already running a Voodoo-chat to be able to include additional features if they wish which improve the functionality and versatility of the chat, as well as allow those who want to give running a chat a chance to do so without having to put in a lot of extra effort to add in features that people have perhaps come to expect. As for myself, I've not any interest in running a chat myself at present except as a demonstration, a proof of concept.
