Savage wasn't biting off chunks, though. He clamped down on the Professor's shoulders, the man's head in his mouth, and lifted until the Professor's rump hit the tarpaper. Then he pushed his head down. Rat and Doomknight watched as the tiger effortlessly slid his jaws over the Professor's entire torso. The bands of rebar that restrained the genius supervillain went in too. Then he snapped his head upward and gobbled up the thighs.
Rat couldn't look away. Savage was flipping his nose up and using the Professor's inertia to hold the villain in place as he thrust his head forward. With three more tosses of his head even the feet disappeared. The Professor was just a bulge in his cheeks how. It hadn't gone the way The Rat had expected. One he realized the tiger was going to swallow the Professor whole, he expected it'd be a gradual process. The tiger would swallow the man's head, then get the shoulders into his gullet, and so on. Like a snake, or a bird maybe.
Savage looked to both sides, his cheeks straining with their wiggling cargo, then he stretched out his neck and swallowed. It was that fast. One moment the Professor was kicking and squirming in the tiger's mouth, the next a massive bulge sagged down through the furry neck and was gone. The Rat watched with almost horrified fascination as the tiger's belly bulged out. Under those layers of fur and muscle was the Professor, now.
Doomknight had watched as intently as The Rat, but for different reasons. “What about the rebar?”
“What about it?” The tiger shrugged. “It's just metal, I can digest it. I want to wait a bit before I continue.”
Chill and Stature had looked anywhere but at Savage as the Professor was devoured, but now that the tiger was again a friend, and not a beast in the act of eating a human, Chill spoke up. “I wonder what his plan was this time.”
That led right back to the fact that Savage had just eaten the Professor, though, and an awkward silence followed. Into the silence rose gurgling noises as the man was digested. It happened remarkably quickly; The Rat watched the heavy bulge soften and flatten over the course of just a minute or two. Apparently Savage's shape-changing powers extended to making his stomach do very odd things, or at least very rapid ones. The Professor's bulletproof skin apparently provided no protection at all.
Savage burped once, softy, and spoke. “All right, I don't think he'd getting out of there. I was worried he might blow up or poison me or something.” He poked his belly thoughtfully with a massive paw. “In hindsight, maybe I should have chewed him up. But I didn't feel any change. No flicker as he teleported out and replaced himself with another body, or anything. I think he's cat food.”
“Has that actually happened?” Savage ignored Stature, though, and looked Sidle over.
“I don't know this one. Shadow powers, maybe?”
“She can sink into shadows. That widget on her forehead keeps her unconscious. It has to stay in place or she might wake up and escape, even out of your stomach.”
Savage shrugged at Doomknight's proclamation and began to strip the skin-tight black suit and black cloak off the woman. Sidle had no super-strength so there was just the one piece of rebar, and it was easier for him to rip her clothing free. As with the Professor, he rolled it up and sniffed it. Then he began going over Sidle, sniffing carefully and everywhere.
It was uncomfortably like a rape. He even licked her groin, and it looked like he forced his tongue in. The Rat wasn't sure what he would have said had Savage actually moved to mount her, but it didn't seem to occur to the tiger. It was part of the process, perhaps, making sure nothing untoward was going to happen during or after the meal. When you thought about it, eating whole supervillains was pretty dangerous.
The search finished, Savage examined the device on Sidle's forehead. “She seems fleshy enough...how easily might this be dislodged?”
“Not easily, but...” Doomknight pulled a roll of duct tape out of a compartment in his armor, and everyone laughed. A moment later the widget was securely taped in place and Savage was looking over his second meal of the day. Merc had passed from his beating a while back but awoke just in time to see Sidle's feet disappear into the huge tiger's maw. He grunted through his gag and struggled to get away, but Stature put a stone foot on his neck and held him still.
This time it went faster. Savage swallowed Sidle feetfirst, presumably so he could keep an eye on the taped-down device. He did not ball her up in his cheeks as he had the Professor, but slid her feet into his gullet and started swallowing. Sidle was of slight build even for an Asian and went in easily. Perhaps a tiger Savage's size, but without his powers, could have swallowed her whole.
With a flip of his muzzle he eased her shoulders and head into his mouth, then with a gulp she was gone. Her long hair slid in after and disappeared past his wet black lips.
In a moment the bulge in the tiger's belly got bigger. The intervening fur and muscle was too thick for any shapes to show, but it had the same hard bulge that it'd had when the Professor went in. There followed the same horrible gurgling as the tiger did whatever it was he did to speed up digestion, and the bulge softened, but remained larger.
“I don't have to do that with norms. It's uncomfortable,” Savage rumbled. Then he looked at Merc. “There's a lot of metal in that one. I can digest it, but it'll give me heartburn. Ah well.”
“Wait a minute.” Stature spoke up suddenly. “Wait...wait a minute. Doom, that thing works on villains, right?”
Doomknight looked at the device in his hand. “Of course, why?”
“The Professor was the one we were worried about. Not his goons. Couldn't you just zap the memory out of Merc?”
Savage tilted his massive head. “If that is the case, then the shadow-walker might have been spared.” The gurgling in his belly had died down, but only after reducing Sidle to a soft, drooping bulge. It had happened even faster than with the Professor.
Doomknight's red LED eyes blinked. “That would...work.” He made an adjustment on the device. Savage swallowed Sidle's clothing after giving it another sniff.
Doom “flashed” Merc, and the supervillain sagged back, unconscious. “I've put him out for a few minutes. I don't think you should be here when he wakes up.”
Savage had the Professors balled-up clothing in his mouth but seemed in no hurry to swallow it. Maybe he was waiting for Sidle's clothing to dissolve first, as he had with the Professor's body before eating her. Worried about some chemical reaction, maybe. The big cat mumbled around the ball.
“Zap the others before I go.”
