The newest cover model of Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue is ready to make a splash. Danielle Herrington graces the cover of the magazine's annual edition for the first time in her career, Sports Illustrated announced Tuesday, February 13, 2018. The 24-year-old Compton, Calif., native made her debut in Sports Illustrated last year. One of her role models, Tyra Banks, informed her she'd be appearing on the front of this year's issue. Herrington was moved to tears as Banks showed her a cardboard cut-out of the cover, which features a shot of Herrington on the beach in the Bahamas. She then video chatted with her mom over the phone to share the exciting news. Herrington becomes the third black model to appear on the cover of the swimsuit issue. Banks appeared on back-to-back covers in 1996 and 1997, while Beyoncé did so in 2007. "Two of my role models are Tyra Banks and Beyoncé, so the fact that I get to join this incredible group of women as I become the third black model on the cover of SI Swimsuit is a dream come true," Herrington said in a statement. "I am so excited to be part of this iconic brand that has long given identity and voice to women of all shapes, colors and beliefs," continued Herrington. "I hope that young girls who look at this cover are inspired to dream as big as I did and work hard to attain all their goals." **The swimsuit issue went on sale Tuesday, February 13, 2018.**
