I pray this post find you well. Been awhile I know. I’m posting to relay a message to you from one of our classmates, Madeleine Ervin (also known as one of the red heads). She told me to please make sure I tell you Hello! I had promise her that I will make it a point to come on and to tell you she said hello!
She called me the one weekend (about 5-6 times to be exact) to say hello and to see how I was doing. She heard I was living in L.A. for a minute and haven’t heard from me and was wondering. Upon returning her calls she asked me If I’ve spoken to you lately and that when and if I do talk to you, to “please” tell you she said hello. I, with sadness in my heart, told her that I haven’t been in contact with anyone, because I really don’t carry my personal cell phone with me anymore for the fact I have been so overwhelmed with taking care of my sister, Obligations (mortgages, Supporting two households) Examinations, Back Therapy, working, traveling back and forth from San Diego every single day. Need I say more?
Wayne let me say this. She must had mentioned you 10 times before she went on to say how she remembered the day when J.B. Oliver approached her and asked would she mind taking a photo along side you as best dress in Class of 75 yearbook. She told me that she remembered how respectful you were, and how you were always so well dressed and how much she admired that about you.
Natanya and Phoebe she asked that if I talked to you two, tell you hello. She said she didn’t know very many people at Centennial, and that if she knew people she would wish them well also. When, she told me that I practically fell out of my chair. I told her it’s funny you should say that because just about everybody knew who you were, as well as the rest of the crew, which being Cynthia Ferguson, and Cheryl Williams, AKA the red heads…don’t trip. LOL. You know Wayne; she giggled and thought that was the funniest thing.
I told her that a lot of her former classmates come on the board and wish her birthday and well wishes and that maybe perhaps she should respond back to them in kind. She asked me who, and I told her Reggie Hall, Natanya, Phoebe, Wayne Ware, Tamera, Airebell, Mary Bender, Clarence, Ed, Mike, Linda, Carolyn to name a few. She was incredibly happy when I told her that. From that moment on, all she talked about was the board. She kept talking about how amazing the board is, the 20 year reunion, the board…..the 20 year reunion,……back to the board…… How everyone from the class of 75 all looked so good in the pictures…. And back to the board. She was describing pictures to me that I was like, What!!! Wait!!!! Who!!!! LOL.
She mentioned Danny Jones, and said that every time he came to town, (before his passing), he came by to see her. She said he looked really good each time he came by and that she never knew he was sick.
She also mentioned J.B. Oliver and asked me if I knew he had a Law Degree. I told her yes I did, and I believe it was from New York University. I also told her that as a matter of fact, J.B. and I had met for dinner the day after he’d taking the Bar Exam up in San Francisco. I also told her that despite J.B.’s mis-comings, He is an extremely intelligent man. Just made some wrong choices, as we all do sometimes. Which is the reason we have to stay prayed up. Satan is busy. She ask me about other big ten fellow apaches, and if I’ve seen any of them. I told her that Geraldine came by my sister’s house in Inglewood to pick me up for the Alumni picnic and by the time I arrived in Inglewood approximately 3:30 (had meeting with clients all that morning), and by the time she picked me up, it was 5ish. I think when I got into her SUV, we just looked at each other and asked ourselves “girl where are we going this late.” I’m like this is beyond being fashionable late, it’s more like ridiculously late. so we just went to her house and talked old times. One thing I can say for sure, that there was never a dull moment when we talked, she would have me in stitches, and don’t let me be caught off guard when she would express things to me about her job, or neighbors that was out of the ordinary, I would be choking with laughter. I would literally gag, and she would not crack one smile. Now that girl can tell a story. I say yep, This girl is an apache for life. For realz.
Back to Ms. Ervin, She told me that after giving her the website, She told everybody she knew. Cynthia Ferguson, Peggy Patton, Danny Jones (When he was alive), Her sister Marlene, Her nieces who also graduated from the Big Ten, and these are just a few she mentioned. Once she gets her computer set up again, she says she will definitely be coming back on. I told her to be daring, take the plunge, and say something on the boards.
I’m on this board sharing with you and everyone to say that all of your prayers have truly paid off. She sounds really good, and by hearing her voice the other night made me think about the prayers we prayed for her. Phoebe, sis. Thank you so very much for leading us in the prayer for her. For those Class of 75 members that came on board and stood in agreement with me, and Phoebe prayer, it really and truly meant a lot. I thank you with all the love I have in my heart.
In closing, Wayne, I just thought you should know that you are loved, my friend. Please know that I could not get off the phone “good” enough, before she said again. Please Jerlilia make sure you tell Wayne Hello. Now, if you remember Madeleine Ervin, she was never a talker. She may have said 5 words at best, back in the days, and the rest she would let you talk. This time, she talked the “whole” 3 hours, I kid you NOT! And as you know, I can tell a story. LOL With Madeleine, I could not get a word in edgewise. I was like…but….what……wait….I seen……I will ….. but when I….but the other…..…. who did….I saw…..I have…. and then…..but…but…but… After about 2 hours of that, I gave up. It was not about me anymore. LMBO!!! I love it though. My girl is doing O.K. To God be the Glory!
Just thought you should know.
Jerlilia
