I'm looking for information about James Curtiss, who lived in Eastport roughly between 1828 and 1834. He was printer and then editor of the Northern Light a pro-Jackson newspaper. I believe, though I am not certain, that he was postmaster of Eastport until 1934. From Eastport, he went to Chicago, where he was elected Mayor in 1847 and 1850.
He married Mary Kimball in 1830, and their first two children, James Jr. and Mary Kimball were born in Eastport.
What I need to know is why he was driven from Eastport. I believe it was some some scandal connected with his tenure as postmaster, but I don't know the nature of it.
