Thanks, Cory and Leasa.
I will follow all the links. A question: On the map inside the cover of Kilby's history, I see an area of gridded streets and what looks like a large building on the east shore promontory that is south of Moose Is. and north of Quoddy Head. I also see an anchor symbol next to it that I take to mean a harbor. Is there any possibility that a ship carrying immigrants from Ireland would have landed there (first port in USA)? Or would they have gone on past and landed at the dock nearest the Passamaquoddy customs house (present-day Eastport)? It seems that the period around my target date of 22 Sep 1822 was a very tumultuous time politically and the borders were changing. Maps for the exact time window are very scarce. I look forward to getting my feet on the ground there and looking around. Who would have ever thought I would go to the eastern extremity of the country. It is as unlikely as you finding yourself on a dead end road in the Ozark mountains of NW Arkansas. And now the TV says every bridge between here and there is washed out; time to load up the RV!
