What i am working on may be of interest to others in the Eastpoint area. I am trying to piece together the life of a young women (Lucy ) that emigrated from Maine to a rather undeveloped area that was at the time was another country. Her life in Galveston is relatively well documented through a series of 39 letters she wrote back home to her mother Jane N. Weston over a period of 12 years. She never mentioned her father, therefore the info about her father's name was important. She is literate, writes in a scholarly manner, and displayed a variety of interests. Her letters mentioned numerous persons from Maine. Included are a few relations that are difficult to place, but also sea captains and vessels that appear to have had regular runs between Galveston and Maine, (I think Eastpoint ). Perhaps these letters are already in circulation in Maine archives, but if not, they could prove hel pful to researchers in New England.
