Hi John.
The application of any method, of carrying out any aspect of modelling, is of course a personal choice, based on your satisfaction of what you are doing and the subsequent result.
I model small scale aircraft and consider an Airbrush to be essential. There is a plethora of books on the market. While mainly based on airbrush art,they con provide a lot of information on just what can be acheived with an airbrush. The variety of effects is enormous.I also indulge in a little airbrush art painting pictures of aircraft with photographic realism. There have been a number of articles published in Aircraft and military mofelling magazinez over the years.
I do not know your local but TAFE NSW run courses in airbrush technique.
