Painting Yellow

I have a scheme I would like to do on an aircraft that has yellow wings. Can anyone help and tell me the best way to paint yellow onto the model. I have been told to undercoat in matt white or matt yellow, then spray 2-4 light coats of the gloss yellow. Am I on the right track or is there a better way. Thanks, Paul
