: Graham,
:
: I saw the pictures of your Bristol Type 188
: on the members pictures. Can you tell me a
: little about it? Who was the kit
: manufacturer? Did you have to do any scratch
: build, especially round the cockpit or
: undercarriage.
:
: I have the opportunity to buy a vacform 188,
: by Dragon, and I'm just wondering if there
: are other kits out there, or, if your's was
: a Dragon, how much came with the kit and how
: much was left up to you.
:
: Thanks
:
: Simon M.
: I actually replied to this messge afew days
: ago but it appears not to have been logged.
: The kit is an old Maintrack Models vacform
: that sat half- built in a box until last
: year when I resurrected it and completed it.
: THe details were gleaned from a copy of
: abook on British Experimental Aircraft
: written by the author of a series of
: articles in Aeroplane Monthly during the
: 1980's and early 90's plus a copy of the RAF
: Review from 1962. I had to scratch build the
: engine pods using tube as the vacform ones
: were badly out of shape. the plane is
: finished in Humbrol polished steel but I'm
: not that happy with the result - it really
: needs a metal foil or Metalliser finish .
: decals in the kit were unusable and had to
: be replaced from the spares box. You could
: try to contact Maintrack Hobbies in Queens
: Road Hastings in the UK if they still trade
: or try Hannants in Lowescroft in the UK.
: Regards Graham Carter

Thanks for the response Graham. I have just got a Maintrack kit (the Dragon one fell through but then a Maintrack one came up) on e-Bay. I'm going to leave it for a while and try NMF on something a bit commoner before I venture onto the 188.
