--Previous Message-- It's the same government that is in office at the moment until a new one is formed....but why should an anti-monarchy government favour the king's grandson rather than his granddaughter? What has happend so far makes it almost impossible to predict anything, but the interim constitution does not mention the king or royal house but it stresses the equal postition of women very strongly -- so they might keep the old decition to introduce the right of the firstborn, even though that was not worded very precise. But again, it seems that the rules are made up along the way, not according to any written laws or so...

: "Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala
: Monday said that the nation was heading down
: the path of republic because of the
: king."
:
:
: If the article is accurate, this stresses
: what has been argued on this board. That the
: King and the Crown Prince ought to step down
: in favour of the King's grandson.
:
: Why not his granddaughter who is first in
: line to the throne according to the
: governments decision from last year?
:
:
: Because she is a girl.
:
: Yes. But the firstborn is heir - at least it
: was so last year.

:
: But the current government isn't very
: pro-monarch, is it...
