So here’s the deal, I started tacking up for my afternoon ride today when I noticed a small scrape (about 1-2 CMs in diameter) on the front of his right hind fetlock joint. It didn't look too serious but I decided it was best to wash it off and take a look anyway. I poked it a little before I washed and it didn't seem to bother him, but after washing it the scrape seemed to get worse. Looking at it cleaned up it looked like there were little white things exposed, it wasn't deep, so I didn't think it could be tendon and I knew it couldn't be bone, but I still thought it was odd. After it was all cleaned up he didn't want to put weight on it while standing, though he didn't seem to be limping when he walked. I decided to call of our ride and did a temporary bandage job with some Furral, Aloe heal, and gave him some mineral feed to help his system a little. When I felt around it it was only tender on the wound itself and on the left rear part of the fetlock joint, the joint was warm all around but the hoof felt normal. The main reason I’m telling you all about this is I wanted to know if you thought it was serious or not. I have a farrier appointment Wednesday and I planned on getting it checked then unless I discovered it needed immediate attention. Do you think it might possibly be infected? Is it serious enough to call the vet? Should I feel comfortable riding? Will I be fine until Wednesday? Thanks for taking the time to read my message!
