I breed and raise appaloosa sport horses. All my show horses have pulled manes. They all have thick and wavy manes and I cry when I pull it but the long manes don't stay in braids well enough. As soon as they start stretching the braids start to loosen. When I am viewing horses to purchase I would prefer the mane braided. I want to see how the neck ties into the shoulder and get a clear look at the thickness of the horses neck. My stallion videos, they are braided if they have long hair if the manes are pulled for showing I leave it out. All pictures are braided. Mare owners look for the same as buyers. If your horse has a long mane I recommend braiding it.
: Most that I have seen have a free mane for the
: free running shots. You braid for the under
: saddle and conformation shots.
