I am an Appy person and have not found there to be an unpredictability of temperament within the breed. There are individuals just like any other breed that can be that way, but they are not that way as a whole. The books are not currently closed and the ApHC will allow outcrossing to TB, AQHA, and Arab currently. They were not that closely bred even in the beginning as the calvary remount program was used to help bring them back.
: I am researching this for another guild I am
: in (not an Appy guild). The reputation of
: the Appy for having an unpredictable
: temperament is being discussed, and I would
: be interested to know if the stud book is
: closed and if so, when it was closed. It is
: my argument that any horse closely bred (as
: the Appy had to have been to bring it back
: from near eradiation) will have some
: problems. I also personally have observed
: more temperament problems in the Arab than
: the Appy. LOL
