Hi! I too hope you can have that kind of relationship with your horse! I would suggest you check your equiptment or see if anything has happened lately to scare him! My new friend is an Arab gelding he is very sensitve about changes and if something hurts him he sulks and acts just like your horse! I tried for 3 years to figure him out and recently found out his girth was hurting him. It was the girth that came on the saddle that came with him! I changed it and he is a different horse. My son even noticed he is more loveable wanting touched instead of pulling away!
I think he resented me for hurting him or something at any rate I never would have believe a small thing like that could change his personality! So check for problems. Good luck!
Sometimes it is hard for horses to adapt to new people and places after 3 yrs my Arab is just starting to act like he likes us!
They are an amazing animals and they keep us guessing!
: Hi there to you too and don't worry about
: coming in on the end. At least you came in
: ! lol
: Thank you for your memories about your appy.
: It soumds like she was a good friend to you
: and your family. You are fortunate. I am
: hoping to get the same relationship with my
: Ben but lately he has been Mr. Untouchable.
: Don't cuddle in my neck. Don't come near me
: if you don't have food. Don't pay attention
: to the other horse but don't pet me either.
: Unless I come to you. Like the cat. And all
: I want to do BTW is run run run.
: I'm not sure what's going on. Must be the
: cold weather prior to winter getting him all
: frisked up.
: But I am hoping that we get the relationship
: I would like with him.
: Thanks again for replying.

: Hi I realize I am comming in way at the end
: but I did want to say that the greatest
: friend I ever had was a 3/4 appaloosa mare
: named Star I bought her as a green broke 4
: year old and we were together til she died
: at the ripe old age of 32.
: She was everything you would ever dream a
: horse could be she was a quiet trail
: horse,pulled a sleigh, a lesson horse, a
: game horse,a babysitter for my son she would
: stand in the paddock and watch his every
: move if I needed to know where he was I just
: looked to see where she was watching. Later
: she taught him to ride! She was grandma to
: my colts.
: Midwife to their mother! If I was sad she
: would stand quietly and listen and let me
: hug and cry in her neck! She would gently
: nuzzle me as if to say I am here! She really
: proved that appy's are versatile. Anything
: you asked her to do she did!
: She was my friend! If you are ever lucky
: enough to have a relationship with a horse
: like her you will never forget her!!!!

: Sure no problem and nice to meet you as
: well.
: I don't know of any web sites but my
: recamedation would be to find any websites
: with appaloosa breeders in your area and
: contact them. Any good breeder is going to
: be more than happy to brag about their
: horses. Happy horsing around! Natalie

: Hi Natalie!
: Pleased to meet you, and thankyou so much
: for your reply. My dad used to have appy's
: and arabians and some crosses but I was too
: young to appreciate that they have wonderful
: personalities. Now that I have one at the
: ripe young age of 41, I find that he is a
: different ball game altogether compared to
: my QH. Very curious also.
: Thankyou again and if you can direct me to a
: website with much more about their
: personality, I would appreciate it greatly.

: Apps are great!! and versital is the best
: way
: to describe them. They are willing, loving
: and able partners. There are the occasional
: bad apples but for the most part even the
: stallions I've met are great loving willing
: horses. Hopefully yours is one of the greats
: a kind willing family horse that'll take you
: for a gallop when you want and then turn
: around and walk with it's head down and walk
: carefully so not to unseat even the smallest
: child. Their great horses hope you enjoy
: yours. Natalie

: Hi there,
: Just stumbled upon this site. It's great!
: The question is.....can anyone help me find
: a lengthy
: description of an appaloosa's temperment,
: frame of mind, character, etc? I have
: looked every where on the net for a month
: now and all I can find is that they are
: versatile, they are good for many uses, this
: that and the other thing, which is really
: great to know, but I want more about their
: character, their loyalty, their curiosity,
: their personality.
: I just bought the most beautiful (to me) 13
: year old gelding appy, red roan with
: blanket, he is great and my 14 year old boy
: loves him too. I think I have fallen in
: love with him too. Next time I post, I have
: a few riding questions I would like to ask
: if I may.
: Thank you for any info on sites about my
: above question.
