Hey guys, was wondering if anyone could offer any insight into any last minute options I have before submitting my application. I'm a bit worried about the EC and service portion. My stats are as follows: GPA 3.65 (Prereq 3.75) MCAT 510 Additionally, I have 20 hours of AA shadowing and have worked in the lab of the anesthesiology dept Chair at my university for almost two years.
That being said, I have no experience or volunteer hours in a health care setting, though I am BLS certified. I have minimal (<50) service hours as a tutor and not many extracurriculars outside of boxing club and working out on my own time.
I'm not asking what my chances are, I just included my stats in the case they adequately compensate for my lack of health care experience and volunteerism. Are there are any suggestions you guys have that would be worth completing within the next month or two to strengthen my application, such as more volunteer hours, shadowing once more or scheduling a poster presentation of my research in a professional setting? Thanks in advance!
I'd be surprised if you don't get an interview. If you get in the door, just sell yourself and your strengths and your chances are certainly favorable.
Honestly, I think you are good. You aren't going to be able to get any meaningful HCE in a month. Spend more time shadowing (I had around 40 anesthesia shadowing hours, and over 100 OR shadow hours). good luck
