I never had issues with anxiety until recently. After being accepted to an AA program, I faced personal/family problems, and my anxiety got to a point that I've never experienced before. I saw a therapist who said he wasn't sure if I am experiencing situational anxiety or if I have a general anxiety disorder. He recommended that I take anti-anxiety meds for now. Should I take the meds, push through, and explain to the AA program what happened? I know that they do drug tests and look at medical records, and they would find out if I am on anti-anxiety meds. Has anyone ever experience something similar?

First of all, why are you so worried about the program knowing you may require anxiety medication? You are being *prescribed* the medication. Not to be blunt, but nobody cares. You could also be on hypertension medicine or take insulin for diabetes, same type of thing. Also they do drug tests for illegal drugs, they wouldn't be testing for anxiety medication..
In your other post you were worried about releasing your medical information. The program may require it, but in all honesty I doubt anyone will look at it unless there is a need down the line. And if someone does, it's likely just a cursory glance by one person who will then forget about what they saw immediately after. Your student peers will have zero clue about your background.
If your anxiety has gotten to the point where you require medication, then by all means take the prescribed medication. I believe you should first attempt to manage the anxiety before turning to medication, but maybe you already have.
