    It depends on the anesthesia group (MDs). Some let AAs place artlines....and some let the AAs do central lines (when the cases prove necessary for the need). Same is true for epidurals...and blocks. Others wont let them do any of the above....so it just depends on the group/hospital.

    I do agree with Dave though that if one is doing "extra procedural work" they should be reimbursed accordingly. Why wouldn't you (or any business for that matter) increase the pay of those who do more work? Its a simple business principal.

    When Im an AA, I will definitely expect the above. You could even make the argument for call pay. You think that the doc sleeping in his bed at home should make the same pay as the doc who's doin a freakin lap-appy at 3AM? That would be absurd. Anyway...I hope you see my point.
