    Hey Dustin!
I'm a first year AA student- and I love it so far (apart from the long hours and exhaustion .

When I shadowed, I just called a hospital I was interested in and asked for the dept of anesthesiology. If they don't get back to you, I think its ok to contact an anesthesiologist directly. If you know one, I highly doubt they would be offended if you asked them to shadow.

A good anesthesiologist should be happy to share their profession with you and its ok for you to be honest and say that you are trying to decide between an anesthesiologist and an AA. They will probably be able to help you see what an AA does, too. Be sure you do more than the required shadowing hours - all AAs are different and it might take you a few visits and several hours 20+ to get a feel for what they do - and its different at every hospital.

If you dont have a hospital where AAs work, you could shadow a CRNA (I shadowed a few CRNAS) - your day is very similar in the hospital environment.

Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.
