Should I take CRNA or AA route? Archived Message

I have been doing a lot of research and I know that I want to become an anesthetist. I just don't know which route would be better for me to take. I have a bachelor's degree with all the required pre-med classes and then some for AA school. I have a 3.5 GPA. I have also taken the MCAT and did well- a 29M. I have not taken the GRE. It would be a quicker route to go to AA school, just two years, then I can practice.

The problem is, It seems to me that CRNA's may have more job opportunities and options of where to practice, flexible work hours and positions, etc. I could be wrong, this is just what I have determined by looking around online. The other thing is, I am worried that if I practice anesthesia for a long time, I may eventually get bored with it and want to do something else. With nursing, you have more options and you are not stuck in one area.

If I go the CRNA route, I will have to do 1 year to get my BSN, then two years working as an RN, plus the two years of graduate anesthesia school. All together, five years vs. the two if I do the AA route.

I don't know what I should do...my main concern is if I become an AA, will I be able to find a job where my family is (Florida) and will I have good hours / possibly be able to work part time for a few years when I have children?

    Any advice is appreciated!
